Vigo - Ons - Sanxenxo - Vigo
Guided tour with marine biologist who will inform about the actions to follow Ons Island so our presence will cause the least possible environmental impact on the island. It will focus on waste generation and the marine environment, such the following measures be taken:
- Collecting and depositing the waste paper bins and enabled, will prevent the wind dispersal.
- Keep clean sand and rocks of all types of waste.
- If you eat on the beach, pick up the leftovers.
- Avoid actions that impair water quality.
- On shore and bathing, it must respect the wildlife.
- When diving, take care of the marine environment.
With the help of our guide we know the fauna and flora and we learn to adopt measures for their conservation and protection.
Regarding the island wildlife, harbor colonies of yellow-legged gulls, Mediterranean shags breeding whose points are located on the cliffs of Ons. Also, the island is home to other birds such as the Red-billed Chough and Alpine Swift. Especially noteworthy, Gallician guillemots, once plentiful but now almost extinct both in the Cies and Ons Islands, this is because this specy is highly sensitive and can not stand to be disturbed or frightened during breeding, therefore, they often abandon their chicks and are also extremely affected by marine pollution. Hence the importance of the explanations of our guide in relation to measures to be taken for their protection and conservation.
Formerly, the flora of the island was covered with native tree mass formed by Rebolos (typical Turkey Oaks from Ons and Cies islands), nowadays the island is almost completely deforested and are few specimens of that tree. Most of the island is covered with scrub vegetation reduced to willows and alder tree of the streams and fountains and a copy of Pine, Eucalyptus and Pyrinean Oak (Meloxo). At all times we will follow the instructions of our guide for the preservation of the flora of the sand, taking basic measures can be ensured only by the perimeter and deliminatas gateways for this purpose.
In all these trips and if time permits proceed to Sailing since in the present world, where the vast majority of things are moving due to the burning of fossil fuels, which is the main cause of climate change, Wind energy is an environmentally friendly alternative and sailing healthy recreational and exciting activity.
